It is used to relieve severe or constant pain that cannot be controlled by any other pain relievers.
It can also be used before painful operations or during childbirth to reduce the pain.
Pethidine consists of an active ingredient known as pethidine hydrochloride. This agent belongs to a group of medicine known as narcotic analgesics (opioid pain-relievers).
Pethidine acts on specific opioid receptors in the brain, blocking the delivery of pain messages. In doing so, pethidine decreases the brain’s awareness of the pain, thus providing pain relief.
